Welcome to Bunessan

Bunessan is in the south of the island on the Ross of Mull (Ross meaning 'peninsular').

The village is a good centre for those wishing to explore this part of Mull.  There are many fine little beaches in this area and several small crofting townships.  The whole of Mull is scattered with hamlets, many in ruins, that demonstrate how densely populated the island was in the past.  For more information about the island's history, you can visit the Ross of Mull historical centre which is in Bunessan. Or visit their website: Ross of Mull Historical Centre.

Bunessan is just a few miles from Fionnphort so it is also no distance to visit Iona if staying here.

Like Salen, Bunessan hosts an annual agricultural show in August.

Since 2003, Bunessan has been home to the community 'Swap Shop' which was set up to try and lessen the amount of still-useful items that were being put into landfill.  It is hoped that this will be a forerunner for other swap shops on the island.  There has been a very positive response to waste/recycling initiatives on Mull and Iona which will, hopefully, make it a nicer place to visit and encourage visitors to recycle their rubbish too.
