Razorbills & guillemots on Lunga
- click on image for close-up

Taking a boat trip to the Treshnish Isles is by far the best way to see many of the areas sea birds.  The islands are breeding grounds for razorbill, guillemot, shag, fulmar, cormorant, kittywake, skua and everyone's favourite, the puffin.

To make sure you see the puffins, visit during late spring or summer - leave it too late and they'll have gone, spending the winter at sea.  The puffins are at their best during the breeding season, it's when their rainbow beaks are at their brightest.

Atlantic Grey and Common seals are both resident on these islands.  Visit in June for Common pups or September for Atlantic Grey pups.

Other residents on Lunga are the wild rabbits, many of which are jet black.

The experience of visiting these amazing islands for their abundance of wildlife is made even more special by how close you can get to the birds and seals.  They are used to being viewed at a close quarters and the puffins are especially unafraid of onlookers. So even if you don't own a telescopic lens, you've still a good chance of snapping some impressive wildlife photography on one of these trips.
